Keep Your Nubuck Clean on the Pine Green Jordan 3
Get Your Nubuck Right | AJ3 Pine Green Clean
Welcome back to the latest episode of Shoe Care Academy. Today, Pretty Boy Rob is going to be taking on this ASHY pair of Jordan 3s in the Pine Green Colorway.
The beautiful black nubuck is looking extremely dusty…that’s a no go.
Even if you’re not a fan of this colorway, it’s hard to see a pair of Air Jordan 3s looking this whack.
Since its release in 1988, the Air Jordan 3 has been a fan favorite silhouette. And while the Pine Green colorway isn’t quite on par with some of the classics like the White Cement or Black Cement 3s, this pair still deserves some love and attention.
Rob is going to be using one of our most popular sneaker cleaning kits, the Signature Shoe Cleaning Kit to bring this pair back to life.
Read on (and watch) to learn more about how to clean Air Jordan 3s the right way.
Prepped for Success
As you’ve probably guessed by now, the first thing we need to do is remove the shoe laces and insert the Adjustable Shoe Tree. While often overlooked, the shoe tree is a must have because it will allow us to put pressure on the toe box while we clean, without creasing the material in any way.
Just say no to creases. We know y’all don’t want any of those.
Ebbs and Flows
With those steps out of the way, Rob started by using the Soft Bristle Brush to dry brush the shoe. Generally you’d see us start by scrubbing them with Cleaning Solution, but for a shoe this ashy and dusty the dry brush helped to remove the loose sediment before we got to scrubbing.
After brushing away the surface dirt, we’re ready to work through our Three Brush Pack and give these a deep clean with our Reshoevn8r Cleaning Solution.
When going through any Air Jordan cleaning, you should work through the brushes in succession, starting with the Soft Bristle Brush, and ending with the Stiff Bristle Brush. Each brush is designed specifically to target different parts of the shoe.
The Soft Bristle Brush is great for cleaning the uppers and more delicate materials. Rob gave these a preliminary scrub with the Soft Bristle Brush to remove any remaining dirt on the nubuck upper.
The Medium Bristle Brush is great for cleaning midsoles. After giving the midsoles a good scrub with the Medium Bristle Brush, they’re starting to look white again.
Generally if there are any tougher stains on the midsole, you can use the Stiff Bristle Brush to try and remove those, but for this shoe Rob opted not to. Because the Air Jordan 3 Pine Green features a painted midsole, Rob decided against hitting it with the Stiff Bristle Brush so that we don’t risk chipping any of the paint. Smart.
Instead, use the Stiff Bristle Brush to clean the outsole. The Stiff Bristle Brush is able to reach into the grooves and crevices of the outsole to rid them of any dirt and grime.
A Few Good Tips
It’s a good idea to pat dry the shoes in between steps with the Microfiber Towel to ensure that you aren’t spreading dirt around.
Cleaning your shoe laces is easy, too. For this step, Rob simply dipped the laces into the Cleaning Solution and then rubbed them together to create the suds. Then, he ran them through the Microfiber Towel to dry.
Now all that’s left is to let the shoes dry in the Arizona sun.
Like a Phoenix: Back from the Ashes
After a few hours outside, these babies are dry and ready to lace up.
The process for cleaning your own pair of Air Jordans is just as simple…and our Signature Shoe Cleaning Kit contains all of the tools you’ll need to complete a proper deep clean just like the one Rob did for us here.
Compared to where we started, these Pine Green Jordan 3s are looking so much better. With a little patience, a lot of love, and the right sneaker cleaning tools (we know where to get those), you can really transform your dirty kicks into a lot of “Those are sick,” or “Where can I get some of those?”
