Jordan 6 UNC Deep Clean

The Air Jordan 6 UNC is one of my favorite Jordan 6s. It’s hard to pick against a shoe that’s made of premium leather, suede, AND features that beautiful Carolina Blue. But this pair that we’ve been rocking at RESHOEVN8R HQ is looking anything but beautiful. These things are cooked.

Now that I have your attention, here are some pro-tips from yours truly that will help you have the most success on your shoe cleaning journey, especially when it comes to cleaning Air Jordans like demonstrated above on the Jordan 6 UNC. 

Tips and Tricks to Clean Your Air Jordans

First: Use Shoe Trees

Always clean your Air Jordans with the Adjustable Shoe Tree firmly in place. Without the help of the Shoe Tree, it can be impossible to put any pressure on the shoe’s toe box. No pressure equals no scrubbing power, which means that that dirty toe box is staying that way unless you use a Shoe Tree. 

Rob did a great job at demonstrating this principle. As you saw in the video above, the toe area on our pair of the Air Jordan 6 UNCs was REALLY messed up. It was practically black instead of that bright Carolina Blue. But because Rob inserted the Adjustable Shoe Tree before cleaning the shoe he was able to apply enough pressure on the toe box to scrub that area clean of dirt and debris. 

Second: Dry Brush Before Adding Moisture

If your shoes are really dirty like the pair we’re working with today, it’s always a good idea to dry brush the shoe. Going straight to water and Solution can amplify the mess and make it worse if you don’t brush off the excess dirt and debris first.

Third: Don't Oversaturate the Suede

When dyed suedes (like you saw on our UNC Jordan 6s) gets too wet it can bleed its color. That’s a big no-no, especially on a shoe like this where the rest of the upper is predominantly white…YIKES. The best way to make sure your suede doesn’t bleed onto the rest of the shoe is to clean it with as little water and Solution as possible. You need to find a balance to where you can clean it just enough without making it start to share its color with the other parts of the shoe. 

The suede on the Air Jordan 6 UNC didn’t give us any trouble, so if you’re cleaning the same pair you should be good to go here.

Last: Pay Attention to the Small Things

Lastly, pay attention to the small details. Things like dirty shoe laces, crunchy suede, or micro-stains are easy to overlook. DON’T. A shoe is only as clean as its dirtiest parts, so make sure you’re putting in the work and combing over every detail with a fine-toothed comb. 

As you saw in the video, Rob did exactly that. He took his time with the Dry Suede Kit to erase away any remaining stains and reset the nap of the suede. He also scrubbed the shoe laces with the Soft Bristle Brush to ensure a proper clean.
