Bring Your 'Raging Bull' Jordan 5s Back to Life: Full Restoration Guide

This week, Vick Almighty took on a classic: the Air Jordan 5 “Raging Bull.” Known for their bold red suede and icy soles, this pair showed up faded, yellowed, and beat beyond belief. But with the right tools and a methodical approach, Vick brought them back, proving again that no sneaker is ever too far gone.

Step 1: Deep Cleaning with the Signature Kit

The first move? A full deep clean using our Signature Shoe Cleaning Kit. This kit includes everything you need to tackle even the most stubborn grime:

• Soft Brush to lift surface dirt

• Medium Brush for midsoles

• Stiff Brush to attack the outsole

Once the sneakers were fully scrubbed, Vick tossed them into the wash using our Sneaker Laundry Bag and Laundry Pods to flush out all remaining residue.

Step 2: Deoxidizing the Yellow Soles

The icy outsoles had taken on heavy yellowing over the years. To reverse the oxidation, Vick applied a thick layer of Sole Revive and placed the shoes into the Vick 2000, our custom UV setup that activates the de-yellowing formula.

 

 

After nearly a week of UV sessions, the soles regained their original clarity and icy finish.

Step 3: Redyeing the Faded Red Suede

One of the biggest issues with older Raging Bull 5s is the red suede fading to a dull, lifeless tone. Vick used professional-grade airbrushing tools and Dyna-Flow red suede dye to restore the suede’s deep, saturated color.

Every non-suede area was taped off for a flawless application.

Step 4: Precision Midsole Repainting

To bring the midsoles back to factory-fresh, Vick used fine detailing brushes and color-matched paint to cover every crack, chip, and faded area. The result? Crisp lines and clean contrast make the red suede pop.

From top to bottom, every inch of the Raging Bull 5s was restored to near-deadstock condition. This project is a reminder that no matter how beaten your grails are, the right tools and process can bring them back to life.
