First Look: Serena Williams' Diamond-Encrusted Nike Shoes at US Open
Serena Williams Wears Diamond-Encrusted Nike Tennis Shoes at US Open
Serena Williams (arguably the greatest tennis player of all time) is playing for the last time in the US Open, an event that she's won 6 times. To commemorate her illustrious career and send a statement to the rest of the contestants, Williams is wearing a pair of custom PE NikeCourt Flare 2 that feature a diamond-encrusted Swoosh and solid gold lace deubres.
To top off the fit, Williams is also wearing a diamond-encrusted outfit reminiscent of something a figure skater would wear. The skirt features 6 distinct layers to commemorate each of her 6 tournament wins.
Both the shoes and outfit were created by Nike and Serena Williams Jewelry, who took on the task of hand-placing each of the 400 diamonds on the Swoosh as well as creating the solid gold deubres.
According to the Nike Press Release:
- Serena took a hands-on-approach to designing her 2022 look.
- Her outfit, inspired by figure skating competition apparel, incorporates a six-layer skirt, referencing Serena’s six prior Flushing titles.
- A crystal-encrusted bodice alludes to the night sky at the tournament.
